South African-based Ghanaian workers and families have received more support as businessman and philanthropist Ibrahim Mahama joined efforts to help bring them safely back to Ghana. His support comes during the second phase of the government's evacuation exercise for Ghanaians who chose to leave South Africa following recent attacks on foreign nationals.
The Government of Ghana has already flown hundreds of citizens home through earlier evacuation flights. However, many more people still wanted to return, making it necessary to organize another phase of the operation. To help reduce the financial burden, Ibrahim Mahama offered to pay for the air tickets of many of the returnees.
Officials praised his contribution, saying it came at the right time and helped speed up the evacuation process. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also thanked other organizations that supported the exercise by providing transport assistance, relief items, health services, and communication support for the returning citizens.
Many of the Ghanaians returning home had lost their jobs, businesses, or felt unsafe because of growing violence against migrants in parts of South Africa. The government has promised to help them rebuild their lives through reintegration programs, financial support, and employment opportunities.
Reports also indicate that Ibrahim Mahama's support goes beyond paying for travel. His company has offered job opportunities to some of the returnees to help them settle and start a new chapter in Ghana. This has been welcomed as an important step in helping affected families regain stability after their difficult experience abroad.
The evacuation has received support from several government agencies, humanitarian organizations, and private companies working together to ensure the safe return of Ghanaian citizens. Medical checks, counselling, transport assistance, and other social services have also been arranged to help returnees adjust to life back home.
Government officials have encouraged more businesses and individuals to support the returnees by creating jobs and providing other forms of assistance. They believe that working together will help those affected recover faster and contribute to Ghana's development once again.
